What does a Library Assistant do?
- performing clerical duties necessary to facilitate day-to-day operations;
- registering patrons for library programs;
- helping patrons with public access computers;
processing materials being taken out and returned
Completion of grade 12 is the minimum requirement although some post-secondary education is preferred. The position requires the individual to be well-spoken, have a varied reading background and be in possession of strong office skills and basic computer literacy. Library experience is preferred, as is an individual who has demonstrated knowledge in current subjects, authors and titles for public queries. The incumbent must have exceptional customer service skills, be able to function as a team player and possess a desire to work with people of all ages and backgrounds.
