Le Refuge Farm is located on Madeline Lake, 25 km from Yellowknife in the middle of the boreal forest, literally! We grow food for ourselves and share the rest of the bounty at the Yellowknife Farmers Market every Tuesday evening during the summer months. We also sell to local restaurants. We have 5880 square feet (yes, we counted!) of raised beds, garden rows, small unheated greenhouses, rock gardens and containers because of our location on uneven ground and bedrock. We grow more than 30 vegetables, herbs and berries but more importantly, we grow hope and inspiration. We try to live as sustainably as possible by pumping our water from Madeline Lake, heating from wood and depend largely on solar power to run our small log home and all irrigation/watering systems.
