Children’s Festival of Silliness

January 25 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$10 – $12

Children’s Festival of Silliness is a celebration of all things kids

Move aside grownups, this show is for kids!

With two fantastic shows and fun activities in between, NACC becomes a place where a kid can be a kid. In between both shows (2-4pm), kids can take part in all the fun activities, like jumping around in a big bouncy castle, get their faces painted, goof around with clowns, play cool games, make a book, eat fun snacks and plenty more!

1 pm – Th’owxiya: The Hungry Feast Dish

In partnership with NWT Literacy Council.

Indigenous storytellers spin a tale from the Kwantlen First Nations Village of Squa’lets, about Th’owxiya, an old and powerful spirit that inhabits a feast dish. Her dish holds beautiful foods from around the world— but be careful, stealing from her is dangerous business because Th’owxiya has developed a taste for children. When Th’owxiya catches a hungry mouse, Kw’atel, stealing a piece of cheese from her mouth she demands two child spirits be brought for her to eat or else, she will eat Kw’atel’s whole family.

Ignorant to her power, yet desperate to save her family, Kw’atel sets forth on an intense journey to fulfill Th’owxiya’s demand. With the help of the Sqeweqs (Raven), two Spa:th (bears), and Sasq’ets (Sasquatch), Kw’at’el finds alternate gifts to appease the goddess and the journey becomes one of knowledge, understanding and forgiveness. Sometimes tricking an ancient spirit is the best step forward!

2-4 pm – Activities in the lobby

4 pm – Isabelle Cliche aka Isabelle la Wonderful

In partnership with L’association franco-culturelle de Yellowknife.

Isabelle la Wonderful has many tricks up her sleeves. Magician, clown, de Yellowknife balloon artist, face painter, stand up comedian, she does it all! She has been making some people laugh with her funny jokes while impressing others with her magic tricks and her wonderful balloon creations for over 20 years. With the ability to perform both in English and French, her Comico-Magic shows are a real crowd pleaser especially when she switches from one to the other- in the same sentence! Shows are 30-60 minutes, very interactive, fun and memorable. Kids love to participate and the lucky ones that get to be the “assistant” during the show are filled with joy.
