Reports to: Camp Director
Camp Connections is a cultural and adventure based summer camp program open to children and youth involved with social services (between the ages of 7-18) from across the NWT. Camp Connections has been an ongoing project of the Foster Family Coalition of the NWT since 2003.
JOB OVERVIEW
Responsible for day-to-day operations of Camp Connections.
Under the direction and supervision of the Camp Director, the Camp Manager will assist in planning, organizing and implementing 5 week long dynamic sessions of summer camp. The Camp Manager will always work cooperatively and effectively with all FFC-NWT staff and volunteers. The Camp Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of all Camp Staff and maintains a working relationship with all guests and Elders.
Responsibilities
- Input age appropriate camp programming for all sessions.
- Input a multiphase program to include cultural activities, water sports, land games, wilderness activities, indoor activities, and ‘rainy day routines’.
- Accountable for the conduct of campers and leaders, which may include effective discipline measures.
- On duty 24/7 while camp sessions are running.
- Participate in camp take down.
- Includes loading all camp materials and transporting back to town for storage.
- Assist in writing final staff evaluations.
Qualifications
- University Degree or Equivalent.
- 2-5 years experience developing and implementing programs for children or youth (ideally in a camp atmosphere).
- 1-3 years in a supervisory position (ideally in a camp atmosphere).
- Class 5 license with minimum 1 year experience as a qualified driver.
- Clear Driver’s Abstract.
- Clear Criminal Record.
- Clear Child & Family Services Check, as needed
- Experience working with children & youth with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, and other physical and behavioral disabilities.
- Excellent verbal communications skills, especially in conflict resolution, human resource management (mediation and related training an asset).
- Ability to coordinate staff, and maintain a safe camp atmosphere under various situations and circumstances.
- Knowledge of and respect for Northern cultures.
- Ability to multitask and manage time.
- Experience in child welfare is an asset.
- Up-to-date first aid certification.
- Housing is not provided, however camp facilities are provided.
