The YWCA NWT Child Recovery program is a proactive program working to promote healthy coping strategies for at-risk children or those who witness abuse. The program addresses issues stemming from changes in family dynamics, bullying, violence in the home, challenging dynamics at school, substance misuse and other topics as required. Child Recovery ensures at-risk children and youth will receive the support and services they need.
We offer age-appropriate, supportive peer group sessions to address common concerns, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and promote healthy choices. It is a free program accessible for youth ages 6 to 14 through YWCA NWT and partner agencies sites.
This is a full-time position working 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday starting in September 2019.
Salary is $70,000 annually

In a safe environment, the Child Recovery Coordinator will offer programming that helps children to:
• Build an understanding of what a healthy relationship is
• Identify sources of support
• Model and teach non-violence
• Increase problem solving and social skills
• Discover healthy family dynamics
• Address beliefs and attitudes about violence
• Discover individual self-image and gain confidence
Duties include planning and facilitating the Child Recovery program sessions, relationship building with children, parents and partner agency contacts, crisis intervention and conflict management, and working within the program budget.
The successful candidate will ideally have a diploma or degree in Child and Youth work, Social Work or a similar combination of education and experience. Equivalencies will be considered. Knowledge of family violence issues is required, as well as crisis intervention skills, behaviour management skills, and conflict resolution skills. A class 5 driver’s license would be an asset.
Up-to-date immunizations, CPR C and First Aid, and a criminal record with vulnerable sector check are mandatory.
