We are currently accepting applications for Heavy Equipment Operators to fill futur permanent and fixed term assignments within the Surface Mining team. This position is responsible for the operation and monitoring of the equipment within their designated area, while ensuring that safety is maintained and that production objectives are met.

Located at the Lac de Gras Mine site, you will be working on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation in the interim (alternating night shift and day shift) rotational schedule on a 12 hours per shift day. with the potential that this changes to a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation in the future, once the COVID-19 pandemic normalizes.

Reporting to the Surface Mining Supervisor and working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:

  • Completing regular and assigned Surface Mining operation duties in designated areas within the Diavik mine site;
  • Operating and monitoring mobile equipment according to the specific operating practices for Excavator or other assigned equipment dedicated to A21 operations;
  • Performing routine daily inspections of equipment and conduct daily start-up, shut-down checks of the assigned Heavy Equipment;
  • Recognizing maintenance concerns on equipment and alert maintenance personnel to ensure a steady state of operation that will maximize equipment production;
  • Perform safety requirements as per company standards, including the completion of Job Hazard Analysis;
  • Coordinating the work area to ensure material is hauled to maximize Heavy Equipment such as Excavator/Loader; 830E Haul Trucks; 16H Grader; Dozer) capabilities and ensure proper loading, dumping of materials.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Strong safety mindset;
  • Minimum 2 years’ as heavy equipment operator;
  • Minimum 1-year experience operating in mining environment, preferably surface operations;
  • Efficiently operate Heavy Equipment such as 16H Grader, D10 Dozer, Komatsu 830E; Komatsu 785;
  • Solid proficiency in reading and understanding manuals and written instructions;
  • Ability to learn and understand technical procedures and information quickly;
  • Ability to work in high stress situations and resolve issues;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets. Hiring priority will be given to qualified applicants who are beneficiaries of the DDMI Participation Agreement Groups and to qualified applicants residing in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Territories.
