Responsibilities

We are seeking an individual offering sound knowledge in the areas of safety and training to assume one of the two positions of H/R Officer, Safety & Training.  Under the direction of the Manager, Human Resources the incumbent coordinates the human resource functions relating to the City’s safety program, training, employee learning and development.  In addition, this position works with other staff to assist in providing all services offered by the Human Resources Division such as recruitment, benefit administration, and payroll. This is an exciting and diverse position offering a challenge to a motivated professional.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated effective decision-making, organization and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. You must have the ability to administer a comprehensive safety and training program for approximately 300 employees in an organized and efficient manner.  This includes all administrative aspects such as tracking, monitoring, advertising, evaluating, policy development, program development, writing of safe work practices, incident/accident analysis, and all other aspects of safety and training programs.   Experience in developing and delivering workshops/education sessions is essential. The ability to instruct First Aid/CPR/AED, WHMIS, TDG, Fall Arrest and Confined Space Entry is an asset.

 

Completion of an undergraduate degree in occupational safety and health and/or education fields and a minimum of two years related experience are required.  Equivalencies will be considered.  A CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation is preferred. Certified safety audit accreditation is an asset.

 

The City of Yellowknife offers a competitive salary range of $106,067-$132,584, a comprehensive benefit package including monthly housing and vacation travel allowances and a defined benefit pension plan. For further information please contact Human Resources at hr@yellowknife.ca.
