Description

Reporting to Executive Director the Navigator, Career Development and YOUth Engagement (HELP4U Program) is responsible for assisting young people transitioning into adulthood and independence.

This position, located at the SideDoor, will work cooperatively with other SideDoor staff (located at Hope's Haven) to promote youth increased independence by managing supports and services including literacy and homework help, career exploration and job search, employment and recreational programs at the evening Drop In Centre.

The Manager will work a 8 hour shifts, 40 hours per week.

Duties

The Navigator, Career Development and YOUth Engagement works with youth (ages 12 – 24) and will manage all programs at the Resource Centre.

This position will manage the Youth Employment Assistance Services Centre providing supports and services including career exploration and job search, job readiness and job placements, literacy and homework help programs.

This position will also manage the Drop-In Centre and all programs including Life Skills (cooking and meal preparation), Cultural Programming, and Games and Recreation.

SideDoor supports practice through a harm reduction and trauma informed lens, placing priority on participant, safety, choice and control. All SideDoor programs support participant empowerment and skill development.

Qualifications

Post-secondary degree in Social Sciences (i.e. Social Work, Psychology), Education, Health Promotion or Business.

Minimum three (3) years related experience with youth and/or vulnerable populations.

Up-to-date immunizations, CPR and First Aid, and a criminal record check are mandatory.

Originally opening as a Drop-In Youth Centre in 1995 SideDoor has grown exponentially, now providing supports including day shelter, meals and snacks, laundry and shower facilities, hygiene products, , computers, telephone, fax, etc.
Drop-In Centre provides a safe alternative to Yellowknife streets including practical supports and life skills: meal served at 5pm, recreation, cultural and social supports, etc.
