Description

The Primary Teacher is responsible for implementing play-based preschool programming and safe supervision for 3 and 4 year old children, with a maximum class size of twelve.  The school operates from 8:15 am to 12:15 pm Monday to Friday during the school year (September to June).  The position also includes paid planning and cleaning time, to a maximum of 30 hours/week.

Duties

  • Develop and implement developmentally and culturally appropriate play-based preschool programming for 3 and 4 year old children (12 children maximum)
  • Prepare materials for educational activities, snack time, outdoor play, field trips
  • Provide safe and age-appropriate supervision, including establishing routines, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and using positive discipline. 
  • Communicate with parents, Board of Directors, and members of the community
  • Maintain program administration, including long-term and daily planning, maintaining student records, purchasing supplies, timesheets
  • Supervise and direct the Assistant Teacher to support in daily activities

Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Education program/certificate or equivalent training
  • Knowledge of child development and early education theories and practices
  • Ability to create safe, fun, and appropriate activities for young children
  • Strong teamwork, time-management, decision-making, communication skills

After a successful interview, you will be required to submit:

  • Criminal records check (including a vulnerable sector search)
  • Record of up-to-date immunizations and TB screen
  • Proof of education

The Fort Smith Co-operative Nursery School is a licensed preschool program run by a volunteer Board of Directors that began over 20 years ago. The FSNCS is set up to provide an early learning environment to ensure children ages 3 and 4 are ready for the on-set of school. Parents pay a minimal fee to allow their children the opportunity to attend a quality learning environment with supportive staff. We have a well-equipped facility with a variety of indoor and outdoor learning materials.
