Description

The Program & Events Coordinator of the Rainbow Coalition's Rainbow Centre is mainly responsible for developing and promoting programs and events for 2SLGBTQIPA+ youth, both at the Rainbow Youth Centre and in community spaces, and maintaining a social media presence.

Duties

  • Upholds and maintains the sentiment of a youth organization, driven and governed by youth themselves;
  • Creates new programming for the youth who access the Rainbow Youth Centre;
  • Develops a monthly schedule for programs run in the Rainbow Youth Centre;
  • Regularly analyzes youth attendance of programs and surveys youth experience to create an environment based around youth input;
  • Facilitates programs and discussions groups when required;
  • Facilitates programs in the community when required;
  • Manages a group of volunteer program facilitators;
  • Develops social media posts and manages RCYK online community;
  • Provides peer support to 2SLGBTQIPA+-identified young people, their allies, and their families, when requested; and
  • Completes other projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who are youth under 30 and/or self-identify as Indigenous, Black, or part of another racialized community.

  • 19 years or older
  • Personal, lived understanding of 2SLGBTQIPA+ identity
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is an asset
  • Criminal Record Check + Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Experience working in youth-centred spaces or organizations
  • Experience creating, developing and facilitating programming an asset
  • Comfortable using social media and engaging with service users online
  • Knowledge of Northern communities and cultures an asset
  • Knowledge of another official language of the NWT is considered an asset
  • Able to use Microsoft Office Suite + Google Drive
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to engage and interact with youth in a respectful way
  • Knowledge of intersectionality and concepts of marginalization, oppression, power and privilege
