The position involves working closely with the Management team in: the processing of personal clients and business clients to provide services, Bookkeeping, fund accounting, personal tax (T1), corporate tax (T2) and on occasion T3 tax returns, to complete client year end notice to reader statement, GST, and to provide pre-assurance accounting functions. Occasionally performing clerical and miscellaneous duties, telephone and mail handling, and dealing with public enquiries of various kinds. The position provides a point-of-contact for the public and consequently requires that proper behaviour and manners be exhibited at all times and in accordance with company policies.
Duties will be assigned to the position at the discretion of Senior Management in order to ensure the position receives exposure to all aspects of the technical functions of both corporations (MDDF and G L Services). This aims to ensure a positive and beneficial learning and growth experience for the position.
Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, it is expected that the following would represent typical examples of specific duties associated with the position:
High level bookkeeping and project bookkeeping functions
Completion of T1, T2 and T3 tax returns for multiple clients
Completion of notice to reader year end statements for multiple clients
Providing financial advice to various clients with a wide range of need
Provide all levels of bookkeeping to multiple clients, for profit, not for profit, limited corporations, sole-proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability partnerships, joint ventures, and others.
File maintenance for client, vendor, customer, payroll and corporate files for clients managed.
Client GST reporting and filings.
Oversight of client payroll, payroll remittance filings, T4 and T4 Summary production and WSCC and GNWT Payroll Tax reporting and filing.
Assistance in collections, payments monitoring and reporting, and other related duties relating to client billing.
Responsible for billable time tracking on managed client files including junior staff time on managed client files.
Corporate and Client bookkeeping services as directed.
AP, AR and data entry for clients when needed and as directed.
Work closely with client Assurance services providers as required.
Presentation of client file to assurance service providers when needed.
Any other duties specifically assigned to the position.
Medium to High computer literacy. As the position involves public contact and may involve periods of unsupervised activity, good interpersonal skills and a minimum level of maturity and self-motivation is required.
Mathematics and literacy skills at a post-secondary level are required. Knowledge of, background understanding of, or previous experience in; business, finance, banking, accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar field would be a valuable asset.
Experience in accounting software (Quickbooks, Sage 50, Sage 300 and others) as well as a strong knowledge of Excel and Word (Microsoft Office) is expected and required.
While travel is not normally anticipated; the incumbent of the position is expected to complete, with the direction of Senior Management, a training and development plan, the implementation of which may require some travel to take advantage of training opportunities.
Some community travel may also be required as the Corporation has client throughout the NWT.
Time management skills will be essential for both the position and any junior staff. Deadlines and schedules will need to be met for all clients.
Being able to work independently and with a team is a most.
Given the confidential nature of the information dealt with and the significant sums that the corporation deals with, a background check that comprises at least a criminal record check and a credit check maybe required.
