We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to assume the position of Supervisor, Customer Service and Finance with the Corporate Services Department.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Manager, Financial Services, the incumbent oversees the day-to-day activities of the Customer Service Representatives and Finance Officers and provides back-up as necessary. To be successful, the incumbent must have a strong understanding of accounting principles, sound problem solving skills and the ability to manage a diverse team. The position ensures that accounting and operational procedures are followed, transactions are reviewed and recorded accurately, fees and costs levied by the City are assessed and verified, and licences and permits are issued properly. The position directs and supervises a variety of functions within the Financial Services Division including: accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts and bank, utilities and customer services. The position acts as a liaison between the Financial Services Division and other departments within the organization, and resolves complex and challenging public interactions.

Qualifications

The work requires the incumbent to have formal education or training in a broad accounting discipline such as successful completion of an undergraduate degree with an accounting focus, or enrollment in a formal accounting program and three to five years of practical experience.  A solid understanding of accounting principles is required. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience is required and the incumbent must be bondable.  A valid NWT Class 5 Drivers’ license, or equivalent, is required.

 

The position requires high end user ability with computer-based programs related to accounting/financial services.  Well-developed organizational and verbal skills, including tact and diplomacy, are necessary for the incumbent to multi-task when dealing with customer enquiries and/or complaints.  The work requires the ability to readily grasp the administrative and financial procedures of the City and the basic operational procedures of all departments.  Experience in a government setting is preferred.  The incumbent must be familiar with Municipal and Territorial legislation and have the ability to interpret them to provide clarification to the Finance Officers, Customer Service Representatives and the public.

 

The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $81,053 - $97,744 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including a $450.00 monthly housing allowance, a defined benefit pension plan and relocation assistance.
