The Youth Support Worker (YSW) is responsible to supervise and mentor youth experiencing homelessness. The position will provide practical supports and facilitate life skills development.
Incumbent must be available to work rotational shifts, including overnight (2 X 10 hour shifts).
Hours range from 20 - 40 hours to week, depending on availability.
The Youth Support Worker will also assist youth to address relational, employment and wellness concerns and facilitate referrals where appropriate while using a case management approach (including reports and statistics). This position will also be responsible for security and cleanliness of building and grounds.
Minimum Grade 10 education with one (1) year of experience working with homeless and at-risk youth.
Personal experience with homelessness is considered an asset. Required training (will be provided) including Crisis intervention, Suicide Intervention, Mental Health First Aid.
Up-to-date immunizations, CPR C and First Aid (will be provided), and a criminal record check are mandatory. CRC must be provided with application (obtain from RCMP free if indicating the CRC is for potential employment with SideDoor).
SideDoor is celebrating 25 years supporting YOUth (1995-2020).
Originally opening as a Drop-In Youth Centre in 1995 SideDoor has grown exponentially, now providing supports including day shelter, meals and snacks, laundry and shower facilities, hygiene products, , computers, telephone, fax, etc. Programming provides a safe alternative to Yellowknife streets including practical supports and life skills, recreation, cultural and social supports, etc.
